Disney bought the rights to Star Wars back in 2012 for a whopping $4.05 billion, and there’s a reason why: the franchise is a license to print money! Not only do the movies gross billions in their own right, but a huge chunk of revenue comes from merchandise sales. So, with that being said, Star Wars merch must be pretty awesome, right? Well, most of it is… MOST being the key word there. For some reason, absolutely clueless and frankly horrifying designs have passed many senior heads to hit store shelves, much to our joy. VATICAN HIRES LEGAL HEAVYWEIGHTS TO PROTECT MERCHANDISING RIGHTS OF POPE FRANCIS AND HOLY SEE The threat of enforcement marks a sea change for a church that for some 2,000 years has seen popes venerated on all manner of flags, banners and medals. But the popularity of Francis and the ease with which his image can be copied in the internet age has spawned a flood of papal trinkets, causing the Holy See to worry that they are losing control of his image. GOD’S LOVE MAY BE FREE, BUT THE VATICAN SAYS IT HAS A COPYRIGHT ON THE POPE. Unnerved by the proliferation of papal-themed T-shirts, snow globes and tea towels around the world, the Vatican has warned it intends to “protect” the image of Pope Francis and “stop situations of illegality that may be discovered.” It also wants to protect the crossed keys emblem of the Holy See. “The secretary of state will undertake systematic surveillance aimed at monitoring the way in which the image of the Holy Father and the emblems of the Holy See are used, intervening with opportune measures when necessary,” the Vatican said in a statement.

*** Newest Video: http://www.evancarmichael.com/Masters/ *** Like this video? Please give it a thumbs up below and/or leave a comment - Thank you!!! My name is Evan Carmichael and I believe that the fastest and most effective way to build a business is to model the strategies of people who have already done what you're trying to do. I call it Modeling the Masters. My last post with 20 comments was How to Go For It, Follow Your Passion, and Be Nice Like Pierre Omidyar (eBay founder). Today we're going to look at how a young man who wanted to become a professional race car driver changed his career choice after connecting with the right mentor and rose to the top of his industry. This is the story of Star Wars creator George Lucas and the top 3 lessons that you can learn from his success. Must Watch Video "The secret is not to give up hope. It's very hard not to because if you're really doing something worthwhile I think you will be pushed to the brink of hopelessness before you come through the other side. You just have to hang in through that." - George Lucas George Lucas (born May 14, 1944) is an American film producer, screenwriter, and director, and entrepreneur. He is the founder, chairman and chief executive of Lucasfilm and is best known as the creator of the Star Wars and Indiana Jones franchises. Lucas' father owned a small office supply store that Lucas was destined to take over but he had other plans - he wanted to become a professional race car driver. Almost his entire childhood was dedicated to cars. When he was in a near-fatal car accident just days before his high school graduation, Lucas gave up racing and went to college. He enrolled in the University of Southern California School of Cinema-Television because he liked photography and thought "maybe that will be interesting." The program would change his life. He met Francis Ford Coppola at the film school who served as his mentor and inspired him to become a producer-director. Upon graduation he committed himself to doing films as his profession. Today Lucas is one of the film industry's most financially successful directors/producers. His estimated 2011 net worth is $3.2 billion and he's received numerous honours such as being named among the 100 Greatest Americans by the Discovery Channel and receiving the Lifetime Achievement Award by the American Film institute. Action Item #1: Love what you do Action Item #2: Find something you're great at Action Item #3: Keep going True Story Lucas wrote the screenplay for Star Wars after being inspired by Flash Gordon and Planet of the Apes. While writing it he thought that it was "too wacky" for the general public but he insisted on finishing it. When the script was finished, only Twentieth Century Fox was willing to take a chance on the movie. In a groundbreaking move at the time, Lucas agreed to give up his director's salary in exchange for 40% of the film's box office take as well as all merchandising rights and sequel rights. Breaking all box office records and winning seven Academy Awards, Star Wars made Lucas an instant millionaire as well as a household name. More Quotes "I'm extremely grateful that I discovered my passion. I love movies. I love to watch them, I love to make them." "It's hard work making movies...if you don't really love it, then it ain't worth it." "I got the licensing rights because I figured they wouldn't promote the film and if I got T-shirts and things out there with the name of the film on them it would help promote the movie." What Do You Think? Have you found what you love to do? Have you ever thought of giving your business up? What part of George Lucas' message impacted you the most? As always, I'd love to hear your thoughts if you leave a comment below!

VOICED BY: LOUISE BATES 0.00 Various of counterfeit World Cup merchandise 0.38 UPSOUND: (Japanese) Kuniyoshi Takatsuka, Senior Supervisory Investigator for Intelligent Property Rights Tokyo Customs 0.39 Various of counterfeit World Cup merchandise 0.53 Two youths wearing football shirts 0.57 UPSOUND: (Japanese) Vox pop 1.08 UPSOUND: (Japanese) Vox pop 1.13 Wide of football merchandise outside shop 1.17 Football shirts hanging in shop window 1.23 Wide of Tokyo street STORYLINE: As the opening match of the World Cup finals rapidly approaches, organisers are facing a multimillion-dollar headache - counterfeit merchandise. Customs officials at the 1998 World Cup in France seized more than 500-thousand counterfeit items worth millions of dollars. Now Japanese authorities are expecting an influx of fake football products. The problem is all laid out on the table. Japanese customs officials have already confiscated up to 19-thousand counterfeit items popular with football fans, and they know that's just the tip of the iceberg. The World Cup finals haven't even started, but Japanese authorities have certainly kicked off their war against the trade in counterfeit merchandise. Soccer's world governing body FIFA is also involved, trying to educate customs officers on how to spot a fake. UPSOUND - (Japanese) Kuniyoshi Takatsuka, Senior Supervisory Investigator for Intelligent Property Rights Tokyo Customs This customs official says his department expects a massive flow of fakes are now about to enter the country. Authorities claim the counterfeit products usually come from Thailand and the Philippines. It's estimated they cost sporting goods manufacturers like Nike and Adidas millions of dollars in lost sales. But it's going to be tough for authorities to make a difference on the street. This football fan bought his shirt at a shop and believes it's an authentic one. It's not always easy to spot a fake, but poor quality stitching and holograms are often giveaways. His friend, says he bought his shirt from a street vendour, and doesn't seem to mind whether it's a fake or not. And with some counterfeit products selling for about a third of the price of the originals, (pause) customs authorities may be fighting a losing battle. This is the Final part of the Decline in HALO merchandise series. Looks like FUNKO has secure some licensing rights to product HALO products. These are likely to be HALO 6 related. Mattel is still developing HALO toy merchandises. https://twitter.com/halocollector?lang=en Why are HALO Merchandises (Action Figures, HALO Mega Construx, etc.) still disappearing all around us?? Here are some hard facts for your consideration. Mattel is losing Money.. Quarter 1 - http://www.cnbc.com/2017/04/20/mattel-reports-first-quarter-earnings-2017.html Quarter 2 - http://www.cnbc.com/2017/07/27/the-associated-press-mattel-reports-2q-loss.html 1) Mattel bought Mega brands in 2014. 2) Mattel signed the master license with 343i in 2015. 3) HALO merchandise hasn't been very hot lately due to both HALO 5 and HALO Wars 2 not been as hot as older HALO games. No Hype No Sale. 4) Mattel has lost millions in Q1 and Q2 of 2017. 5) Mattel has a major financial problems effecting all their subsidiaries. Mega brands is a subsidiary. 6) Due to budget issues a lot of sets and lines has to be sacrificed. (I believe all the rumor HALO Wars 2 sets were mostly likely cancelled, and TMNT cartoon series is quite possibly dead.) They have to pick and choose between lines that can generate revenue like Pokemon/Despicable Me 3 vs. lines that retailers do not want due to poor sales. 7) In order to maximized profit they picked Destiny as the line to develop for 2017. We are getting a new Destiny game after all, they want to capitalized on the hype! I post some info a few weeks ago on spartanbloks, but these info wasn't 100% accurate. I believe these facts are much more accurate then my previous posts, I had help putting these facts together. No more facts, these are now wishful thinking.. Hopefully the focus is shift back to HALO in 2018 in time for HALO 6. The good news is that Mattel is making progress as Q2 loss at 56 million is half of Q1 loss at $113 million!

But what are some of the worst ever created? Well, let’s find out. Here are the Top 10 worst pieces of Star Wars merchandise. And despite their recent small resurgence, most of America rightfully considers them to be a pariah. So to call Krispy Kreme’s mistake in February of 2015 an oversight, would be rather generous. A Krispy Kreme store in Hull, England must not have been totally privy to the implication that a promotion known as Kay Kay Kay Wednesday would have. While attempting a play on words, they created something called the “Krispy Kreme Klub.” The group’s mission was innocent enough, which was to give kids a week long program to take part in during a school holiday. However, when advertising this program, they coined the term Kay Kay Kay Wednesday.” To make matters worse they scheduled other activities during the week such as “Colouring Tuesday” and “Face Painting Thursday.” Seriously, you can’t make this stuff up. Maybe we can give them some leeway here since the store was in England and people there don’t have to witness a bunch of racist clowns parading around draped in bedsheets. But still, someone should have caught this. After the ensuing PR nightmare, Krispy Kreme apologized for the offensive acronym and reiterated that the mistake was unintentional. Nevertheless, I’m pretty blown away by their lack of foresight...great, now I’m in the mood for perfect doughnuts. 8 - Fox - Selling Star Wars We all know by now that Star Wars has become an institution. It’s taken a lifeform of its own, with a world full of characters, creatures and planets that most people could never have dreamed up. But in 1977, perhaps before the executives at 20th Century Fox understood just how freaking big Star Wars would become, they figured signing over all Star Wars Merchandise to George Lucas was a smart business idea. Lucas was actually entitled to a $500,000 salary, but instead he came to the execs with a proposition. In exchange for a $350,000 cut in his paycheck, he asked for two things. 1. He asked for all merchandising rights, and 2, he asked for the rights to any sequels. Merchandising just wasn’t a huge cash flow to studios back then, and plus, Star Wars wasn’t expected to take off the way that it did of course. That, as it turns out, was an epic mistake on the studio’s part. By most estimations, Stars Wars merchandise has netted over $27 Billion dollars as of 2016. Yes, that’s 27 BILLION dollars, with a b! According to Forbes, that’s the most lucrative deal between a single person and a large studio. So yeah, it’s pretty hard to make a larger mistake than that one. 7 - Urban outfitters - Racist Monopoly Over the years, Urban Outfitters has made an art form out of PR mistakes. Whether it was selling shirts that say “Everybody Loves a Jewish Girl” or “New Mexico: Cleaner than Regular Mexico” this company has a knack for pissing everyone off. But they made an especially dumb move when they introduced a board game called Ghettopoly, a spinoff of Monopoly but with an offensive and stereotypical twist. The board game lampoons stereotypes of poor neighborhoods. Users can buy stolen property, pimp hoes, build crack houses and engage in a number of nefarious activities. Needless to say this didn’t go over all that well with the public, in particular civil rights leaders and many black people. Sure, the game was probably meant to be funny, but come on, couldn’t they have envisioned the public backlash? I dunno, maybe critical thinking isn’t a strong suit of a company who sells overpriced V-neck tees. DEEP V-necks for everyone!

SOUNDBITE: (Japanese) Kuniyoshi Takatsuka, Senior Supervisory Investigator for Intelligent Property Rights Tokyo Customs "With regards to the counterfeit of FIFA goods, we have not seen this sort of phenomenon at the last Winter Olympic in Nagano. However, this time, it is going to be the world biggest event and we reckon that the massive flow of the counterfeit goods are about to enter the country and we have already confiscated 18,500 items at the custom and are trying to stop the items overflowing." 4. So, I guess this is the fake one." 8. Wide of football merchandise outside shop 9. Football shirts hanging in shop window STORYLINE: As the opening match of the World Cup finals rapidly approaches organisers are having to face up to another multimillion-dollar headache - counterfeit merchandise. Customs officials at the 1998 World Cup in France seized more than 500,000 counterfeit items worth millions of dollars. So far Japanese customs officials have confiscated over 18,500 items and they acknowledge that this is just the tip of the iceberg. Although the World Cup finals have still to get underway Japanese Customs officials have already started their war against the trade in counterfeit merchandise. Most counterfeits have come in from Thailand and the Philippines and are costing sporting goods manufacturers like Nike and Adidas millions of dollars. Soccer's world governing body FIFA has gone to great lengths in trying to educate customs officers on how to spot a fake. Poor stitching and bad quality holograms are both giveaways to trained inspectors. Pre-orders for the Japanese shirt, made by Adidas and costing around 100 US dollars, have already hit a company record for a World Cup shirt. That price makes counterfeit shirts - which sell for around 30 US dollars - highly attractive. Customs authorities are determined to stop the trade. More officers are being stationed at Kansai and Narita airports and huge X-ray machines that inspect the inside of trucks have been installed at the ports of Kobe, Osaka and Yokohama. The authorities say they are well aware of the scale of the problem. But despite their best efforts the shirts are still getting through and there is certainly a market for it. One positive outcome of this is the fact that the flow from South Korea - previously the biggest source for fake goods - is now a trickle, an example of how the tournament has warmed relations between the two neighbours. It has now been revealed why Disney allowed Marvel Studios to make Jon WattsSpider-Man: Homecoming for Sony Pictures, though they knew they wouldn’t receive any money from ticket sales. For years, vocal audiences have been calling for Sony to return the theatrical rights of Spider-Man back to Marvel Studios so that they could finally see the web slinger fight alongside the Avengers on the big screen. Their wishes finally came true last year, with Anthony and Joe Russo’s Captain America: Civil War. A little over two years ago, Sony reached a landmark agreement with Marvel to share Spider-Man while retaining the rights to the character, there by allowing the iconic superhero to appear in the Marvel universe However, part of the agreement was that any solo Spider-Man movie would be made for Sony Pictures, not Disney It was a win-win situation If Sony was fronting all the cost of developing, marketing, and distributing the movie, then it was only fair that they keep all the box office receipts as well. That was how Marvel Studios head honcho Kevin Feige recently revealed that he convinced Sony to let his studio produce the movie for them, but convincing his bosses at Walt Disney Studios was something else entirely. In 2011, Disney was able to recover the merchandising rights to Spider-Man, while Sony still retained the character’s movie rights Ever since then, the Mouse House has profited on all Spidey merchandise – from toys to games and that has now come into play with their movie agreement with Sony. In regards to Homecoming, Sony gets to keep all the money from the movie, but Disney profits from sales, aside merchandise from the producer’s fee that Sony had to pay Marvel Studios for making the film. According to WSJ, the Mouse House expects windfall gains from merchandise sales this summer – and the rest of the year. On the surface, it may seem like Disney is being shafted in this deal, when in reality, they could stand to make more from Homecoming – and Spidey’s inclusion in other MCU films – than Sony does from the movie’s box office sales. After all, merchandising is what turned George Lucas’ record-breaking Star Wars saga into a multimedia, billion-dollar franchise. Although Disney has certainly been profiting from the box office success of their live-action remakes, Star Wars movies, and the Marvel Cinematic Universe, much of their profit comes from merchandise sales and licensing out their properties. For instance, Disney raked in almost $760 million from Star Wars toys in 2016 alone, and that’s only accounting for toy sales, not all the other forms of merchandise. Considering that Spider-Man is one of the world’s most famous superheroes, we can only imagine how much money Disney could profit off the character’s merchandise – and they have already been doing so ever since they recovered the rights back in 2011.
